These rustic wooden puppets are about 75 years old and were found around Central Java. The more expressive and primitive style of carving is characteristic for this rural type of Wayang Goleks. They were manufactured in small villages away from the more orthodox and traditional Wayang school of the Sultan Palaces. For special events the Puppeteer would occasionally repaint and attire his puppets with new clothes using precious materials, sometimes even originating from distant places
