This rare antique wooden mask originates from Dieng, Central Java, and represents Bentol, the oldest servant clown in the legendary Panji cycle. Estimated to be around 90 years old, this mask was traditionally used in Topeng (masked dance-drama) performances, where Bentol played a humorous yet insightful role as Prince Panji’s loyal companion.

In Javanese Wayang Topeng, Bentol belongs to the Bondres (clown) category, known for his witty humor and sharp social commentary.
