Featuring a fierce expression, sharp teeth, and bold red coloration, this mask was used in Topeng dance-drama performances to depict villainous characters, mythical guardians, or supernatural beings. The bulging eyes and long fanglike teeth are the attributes of an ogre The bulging eyes and bared teeth represent power, aggression, and protection, often used to ward off evil spirits.. Also the red color (mixed with Chinese 'Kenchu' pigment).
