Beautiful rod puppet couple in batik
The 13-15th century Panji Stories of Indonesia recount romantic adventures and dramas between Javanese princes and princesses. Our exclusive wooden Rod-Puppets are especially handmade by a Master Puppeteer Carver in a small village of Central Java exclusively for our collections. They are carved from fine tropical mask wood and dressed in hand batiked red cotton sarongs with ever changing patterns. Every puppet is individually hand painted and adorned with hand beaten and gold gilded brass-ornaments in our own workshop and in the old style of the Panji puppetry tradition.
The Panji puppets come as an elegant pair with individual wooden bases and pvc tubes to hold the inner rods of the puppets.
As each puppet is handmade, minor differences in design and color are to be expected, adding to its charm and authenticity. Whether you’re acquiring a shadow puppet or a rod puppet from the Wayang Golek tradition, you are investing in a timeless piece of art and history.
